Tinubu's Power Play: APC Mobilizes Mammoth Crowd, Welcomes Defectors in Kano

A significant political gathering took place in Kano on Saturday, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a mammoth crowd of supporters at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata. The event served a dual purpose: the inauguration of a dedicated support group for President Bola Tinubu and the formal reception of numerous high-profile defectors into the ruling party's fold. This occasion drew a wide array of APC dignitaries, including governors, senators, and other prominent chieftains, underscoring the party's strategic efforts to consolidate its influence in the region.

Central to the day's agenda was the official unveiling of the Tinubu Support Campaign Council, signifying a structured approach to bolster the President's political base. Alongside this, the APC made a substantial show of strength by welcoming a diverse group of former political figures. Among the notable personalities received into the party were former senators Rufa’i Sani Hanga, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, and Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, whose inclusion is expected to lend considerable weight to the APC's presence.

The roster of defectors further included key figures from other political parties, illustrating a broad realignment of political allegiances. Ali Datti Yako, the Chairman of the NNPP (Fruit Faction), and Badaru Umar, the NDC Deputy State Chairman, made their transition to the APC. Also joining were Isyaku Ali Danja, former Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area, and Yusuf Bello Danbatta, former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly. The party also welcomed Senator Baraka Sani, formerly the PDP deputy governorship candidate, and Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya, a former Special Adviser to the President. Additionally, the Chairman of the NNPP (Book Faction) and former NNPP senatorial candidate, Abdulmajid Dauda Dandawaki, officially joined the APC.

The event was characterized by an extraordinary display of public enthusiasm. The defectors were accompanied by their own throngs of supporters, who merged with the thousands of existing APC loyalists. Attendees, dressed in shirts and caps of various colors such as white, red, and yellow, proudly displayed banners and inscriptions that unequivocally expressed their support for the APC and its candidates. The sheer volume of the crowd was such that it spilled onto major arterial roads leading to the stadium, including routes around the bustling Kanti Kwari, Kofar Mata, and Kurmi markets, as well as IBB Way. This massive turnout inevitably led to significant disruptions, halting commercial activities in the vicinity of the stadium and parts of the Kanti Kwari textile market, with reports of some traders electing to close their shops due to the unusually large gathering. Traffic flow was also heavily impeded as jubilant supporters converged on the venue in groups ahead of the event's commencement, creating a vibrant yet chaotic atmosphere.
