Teen's Radical Gamble: Flown to Turkey at 16 for Forehead Reduction Surgery

The landscape of beauty concerns is shifting, with a growing number of women in 2025 expressing anxiety over a high forehead. This concern has led to a significant increase in demand for cosmetic procedures aimed at reducing the space between the hairline and eyebrows, with clinics reporting an inundation of inquiries for solutions.
One such individual is 16-year-old Yas Labidi, a content creator who sought a drastic solution to her years of self-consciousness. In November 2024, driven by increasing distress over her appearance since the age of 13, Yas travelled to Turkey to undergo a hair transplant. The procedure aimed to reduce her forehead by 2.5 cm. Her mother, Natasha, 44, gave consent for the operation after UK clinics refused to perform it until Yas turned 18, noting her daughter's mental health was suffering. Natasha viewed the procedure as a safe option, comparable to braces or hair extensions, unlike more risky surgeries. Yas herself was determined, saving every penny from her bar job and TikTok work. The procedure, performed at the Clinic Centre in Turkey, involved shaving hair from the back of her head, extracting follicles, and implanting them along her forehead to lower the hairline. It took seven hours under local anaesthetic, with Yas describing the injection as the worst pain. Nine months later, Yas is much happier, her hair slowly growing, and she no longer feels the need to hide her forehead. Her mother has also received inquiries from other parents considering similar options for their children.
This individual story reflects a broader trend, with experts noting a significant rise in female hairline transplant inquiries. Treatment Rooms London, for instance, saw a 43 percent increase in inquiries from 2023 to 2024, and a further 41 percent rise between January and July this year compared to the same period last year. The average age of patients in 2024 was 36.9, with UK procedures typically costing between £6,000 and £8,000. Dr. Roshan Vara, co-founder and surgeon at Treatment Rooms London, explains that many patients inherit a high hairline or high temples, which impacts their ability to style their hair. He emphasizes the importance of a natural-looking new hairline, considering brow and temple position for long-term aesthetic appeal, with transplant procedures typically lasting six to eight hours.
Beyond hair transplants, some women opt for a more invasive surgical forehead reduction. This procedure involves removing a section of tissue and bringing the hair-bearing scalp forward. It usually takes two to three hours under local anaesthetic and costs around £5,000 in the UK. Patients typically require two weeks off work, with a full recovery expected within six weeks. Potential side effects include bruising, swelling, and soreness, and it leaves a small scar. This option is not suitable for individuals with a family history of pattern baldness. Dr. Vara notes that this can be a better choice for certain patients, especially those in the public eye, as the final result is achieved much faster, although transplant patients can expect a stylable fringe within nine months and full length in up to 18 months.
Chloe Walker, a 34-year-old mum-of-two from Hornchurch, Essex, chose the surgical forehead reduction to address a lifelong insecurity stemming from childhood bullying. Having been called names like
