Tarantino's Final Masterpiece: Production Update After Seven-Year Hiatus!
Quentin Tarantino is preparing for his tenth and final feature film, with his longtime cinematographer Robert Richardson revealing details about a new, fresh direction for the project. While fans await Tarantino's finale, his penned script for David Fincher's "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," starring Brad Pitt, is set for release this November.
Quentin Tarantino, known for his self-imposed limit of directing only ten feature films, has not directed a movie for over half a decade since his last work, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." In the interim, Tarantino has been creatively active, writing books, hosting podcasts, and even penning a script for David Fincher's upcoming film, "The Adventures of Cliff Booth." Currently, Tarantino is focused on a play scheduled to be performed in London, and only after its completion will he begin work on his highly anticipated tenth and final feature film.
These developments were recently shared by Robert Richardson, Tarantino's longtime collaborator and cinematographer, in a new interview. Richardson confirmed that Tarantino had previously considered "The Movie Critic" as his final project a few years ago, but that endeavor ultimately fell apart. According to Richardson, Tarantino is now pursuing a "fresh" direction for his concluding cinematic work. While the exact timeline is not yet locked, concrete information about this final film is expected sometime next year, with preparation potentially starting in the summer, contingent on the success and progression of his play.
Robert Richardson has served as Tarantino's cinematographer for two decades, beginning with the "Kill Bill" films, and has garnered four Oscar nominations for his collaborations with the acclaimed director. Interestingly, his three career Oscars were awarded for his work on other projects. Richardson recalled a moment during the production of the Michael Jackson biopic, which he was shooting with director Antoine Fuqua, where Fuqua graciously encouraged him to step away to conclude his journey with Tarantino. The Michael Jackson biopic was subsequently shot by Dion Beebe.
Separately, "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," a film written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by David Fincher, is set for release. This movie, which stars Brad Pitt in the titular role, is an expansion of a character from "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." It is scheduled to premiere on IMAX screens in November, with a Netflix debut following in December. This project underscores Tarantino's continued influence and involvement in the film industry, even as he meticulously plans his own directorial swan song.
