Spider-Man Dominates Box Office Again as 'The End of Oak Street' Makes Strong Debut

The latest box office reports indicate that "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues its dominant run, leading the weekend despite new competition. On Friday, the Marvel-Sony tentpole pulled in $19 million domestically. It is projected to secure $67 million through its third weekend, representing a 53% decline from the previous week's impressive numbers. This strong performance is expected to push "Brand New Day's" total North American revenues to approximately $783 million, further solidifying its blockbuster status.

Entering the fray in second place was the Warner Bros. sci-fi thriller, "The End of Oak Street." On its opening day, the film garnered $8.1 million from 3,446 North American theaters. Industry rivals anticipate the movie will achieve about $18.7 million domestically by Sunday. This marks a somewhat soft start given its production cost exceeded $80 million. However, with positive reviews (84% on Rotten Tomatoes) and favorable word-of-mouth ("B" grade on CinemaScore exit polls), there remains potential for "Oak Street" to maintain its presence in theaters and ultimately justify its budget. Written and directed by "It Follows" filmmaker David Robert Mitchell, the film centers on a suburban family whose neighborhood is suddenly transported to prehistoric times. The cast features Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery, and Jordan Alexa Davis.

The weekend's other significant newcomer, "PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie," secured third place, earning $7.35 million on Friday from 3,545 North American cinemas. The animated family adventure is expected to rake in around $20 million for Paramount throughout the weekend. This projection aligns well with its predecessor, "The Mighty Movie," which debuted with $22 million and went on to gross $205 million during its theatrical run.

Christopher Nolan's epic, "The Odyssey," maintained a strong showing in its fifth weekend, landing at number four. The Greek-inspired film added $6.5 million domestically on Friday and is anticipated to collect $23 million by the end of the weekend. This would elevate the film's total North American haul to an impressive $504 million.

Rounding out the top five was "Katseye: Wild Hearts." This documentary, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the global girl group, earned an estimated $2.2 million on Friday, despite playing in a limited release of just 724 theaters. By Sunday, its gross is projected to reach approximately $3.8 million.
