Sopranos Shocker! Michael Imperioli Claims Characters Would Be Trump Supporters

Michael Imperioli, known for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in the acclaimed HBO crime drama “The Sopranos,” recently shared his perspective on how the show’s characters might align politically if the series were produced in today's climate. According to Imperioli, the characters would “probably” be supporters of Donald Trump. He elaborated on this seemingly paradoxical view by linking it to the show’s central theme: the American dream, particularly as experienced through the eyes of immigrants.
Imperioli highlighted that a major thematic element for a contemporary version of “The Sopranos” would involve the current political atmosphere in the U.S. and its implications for immigrants. He pointed out that despite being immigrants themselves, many of the characters might surprisingly gravitate towards Trump. Imperioli pondered how they would reconcile these potentially conflicting loyalties, reminding that many early Italian immigrants to the U.S. were undocumented, a fact he believes is often overlooked or intentionally ignored.
“The Sopranos” aired for six seasons on HBO from 1999 to 2007, comprising 86 episodes, with Imperioli appearing in all of them. Widely regarded as one of television’s greatest dramas, the series garnered 21 Emmy Awards during its run, including three Best Actor awards for the late James Gandolfini, who portrayed the lead character Tony Soprano. Imperioli himself received four Emmy nominations for his supporting role, winning once.
However, the show's creator, David Chase, offered a contrasting opinion regarding Tony Soprano's potential view of Donald Trump. In a 2019 interview with The New York Times, Chase stated that he believed Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano would not have been impressed by Trump. Chase suggested that Tony would have considered Trump
