US Soldier’s Wife Detained by ICE Days After Wedding Sparks Outrage

A 22-year-old woman has been detained by immigration authorities just days after marrying a U.S. soldier at a military base in Louisiana.

Annie Ramos was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while visiting Fort Polk with her husband, Matthew Blank, as he prepared for deployment.

Ramos, a biochemistry student with no criminal record, is facing deportation over a 2005 order issued when she was an infant after her family missed a court hearing.

The couple had already begun a legal residency process, a recognized pathway for undocumented spouses, with paperwork prepared through legal counsel.

Ramos had also applied for protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, but her application was never processed after policy restrictions halted new approvals.

The arrest occurred at the base visitor center, where the couple had gone to secure her military spouse ID. Officials instead contacted ICE, leading to her detention.

She was later transferred to a detention facility in Louisiana, where family members say she has been unable to sign key immigration documents.

The case has raised concerns about the scope of enforcement under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), particularly regarding families connected to military personnel.

Critics argue the incident contradicts claims that immigration crackdowns would focus primarily on criminal offenders, as Ramos has no prior record.

The situation continues to draw attention as debates intensify over immigration policy and the treatment of military families.
