San Antonio Mayor Demands Ye's July 4 Concert Be Canceled Amid Controversy!

San Antonio, Texas, is currently facing a significant controversy regarding a scheduled Fourth of July concert by Kanye West, with Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones leading the call for its cancellation. The highly anticipated event, set to take place at the city's Alamodome, was announced by Ye last week, and tickets are readily available via Ticketmaster, with prices ranging from $127.50 for standard upper-level seating to an extravagant $1,461.25 for the exclusive “YE – Front Row Experience” in the lower level closest to the stage.

On Saturday night, June 20, the San Antonio Democrat and U.S. Air Force veteran, Mayor Ortiz Jones, publicly shared her firm stance against the concert. Citing the musician’s extensive history of hate speech and antisemitic remarks, she urged the Alamodome — a city-funded facility capable of hosting over 70,000 attendees for an in-the-round concert — to "pull the plug" on the Independence Day booking. In a post on X, Mayor Ortiz Jones emphatically stated, “I support canceling the @kanyewest concert. Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.” She further underscored the importance of this stance, adding, “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.” The date of her post was June 20, 2026.

The San Antonio date falls amidst a series of other concerts planned for Ye’s summer mini-tour. His schedule includes performances in Tampa, Florida, on June 26 and 28, followed by an international leg in Tirana, Albania, on July 11. The tour then moves to Madrid, Spain, on July 30, and Algarve, Portugal, on August 7, before concluding with a pair of homecoming shows in Chicago, Illinois, on September 3 and 4. While West has successfully staged shows this year in Mexico City, Los Angeles, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Georgia, he has also faced cancellations in other locations, including England, Poland, and France.

The opposition to Ye’s performances extends beyond San Antonio. Republican U.S. Senator Rick Scott of Florida recently called for the cancellation of West's Tampa shows. In a statement on June 4, Senator Scott expressed grave concerns, stating, “Kanye West’s consistent antisemitic attacks are an affront to the values of the people of the Hillsborough community. He has openly praised Nazis, called himself one, and slandered Jews across the world. Kanye West also funded a Superbowl ad in 2025 that directed viewers to purchase merchandise featuring swastikas.” Senator Scott further condemned West’s remarks as “vile and a slap in the face to our state’s Jewish community,” highlighting the troubling nature of a taxpayer-supported stadium subsidizing an event led by an artist known for pushing such "dangerous, hateful rhetoric," especially in a state with one of the largest Jewish populations in the country.

Despite these controversies and calls for cancellation, Ye remains active in his music career. On Friday, he released a deluxe edition of his latest album, "Bully," which features updated mixes of its original tracks along with two new songs, “OK” (featuring Don Toliver) and “Mission Control.”
