Ice Cube's Iconic $156M Franchise Roars Back After 19 Years with New Sequel!

The beloved family comedy franchise, “Are We There Yet?”, is making a comeback with a third installment titled “Are They Gone Yet?” The threequel is currently in early development after being acquired by Skydance Sports, with original stars Ice Cube and Nia Long set to reprise their roles as Nick and Suzanne.

The original 2005 film introduced audiences to Nick (Ice Cube), a ladies’ man attempting to impress Suzanne (Nia Long), a single mother of two. Nick’s offer to take Suzanne’s children on an extended road trip in his prized Lincoln Navigator quickly turned into a chaotic adventure. The film was a box office success, debuting at the top of the domestic charts and grossing $97 million globally.

The 2007 sequel, “Are We Done Yet?”, continued Nick and Suzanne’s story as newlyweds navigating life as a blended family and clashing with an eccentric contractor. This installment earned $58 million worldwide. Following the success of the movies, TBS adapted the franchise into a sitcom starring Terry Crews and Essence Atkins, which aired for three seasons from 2010 to 2013.

For “Are They Gone Yet?”, Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana are penning the screenplay. The new film will present Nick with his biggest challenge yet: navigating life with grandkids. Ice Cube expressed his excitement for this new chapter, stating, “We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies. Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership.”

The film is being produced by Broken Road and CubeVision, with Ice Cube, Todd Garner, and Jeff Kwatinetz serving as producers. Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennawey are executive producers. This news adds to a string of revivals for Ice Cube’s comedy franchises, with talks also underway for a third installment of the “21 Jump Street” series, tentatively titled “24 Jump Street,” and another “Ride Along” film. Additionally, the “Friday” franchise is making progress towards its return with “Last Friday.”
