Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Shakes Up 2026 With Star-Studded Nominee List and Artist Reactions

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its robust list of 17 nominees for the Class of 2026 on February 25, a slightly larger pool than in recent years. This year's nominations feature a significant number of first-time contenders, with 10 artists receiving their inaugural nod, alongside seven artists who have been previously nominated for this prestigious honor.
Among the celebrated first-time nominees is singer, songwriter, guitarist, and activist Melissa Etheridge, who becomes eligible 23 years after her first commercial recording. Etheridge, whose 1993 album Yes I Am achieved six-times platinum status, humorously acknowledged her nomination by stating, “Yes, I am.” She is no stranger to the institution, having performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's opening concert in 1995 and inducted Janis Joplin (1995) and Bonnie Raitt (2000). Speaking from her home, Etheridge shared, “It’s great to finally be in the room, and the rest is up to the voters. I think it means a lot more to my friends and family around me, ’cause they’ve been kind of going, ‘What’s wrong with these people?!’ for a long time. But it’s really nice to be seen.” She also recalled a memorable, albeit chaotic, performance of “Rock and Roll Music” with Chuck Berry, backed by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, during the opening concert finale, describing it as
