Riyadh Shines as Global Music Hub: Joy Awards 2026 Delivers Star-Studded Spectacle

The Joy Awards 2026 in Riyadh transformed the Saudi Arabian capital into a pulsating epicenter of live music, elevating the annual ceremony from a regional showcase to a performance-driven global event reminiscent of the MTV Video Music Awards. With music at the core, the broadcast seamlessly blended international headliners and celebrated Arab artists, highlighting Riyadh’s growing influence in the global entertainment landscape.
Katy Perry opened the ceremony with a high-energy performance of “Dark Horse,” featuring live vocals, choreography, and a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the Riyadh skyline. She later returned to present the Favorite Female Artist award to Egyptian pop star Angham, exemplifying music’s ability to transcend cultural boundaries.
British icon Robbie Williams delivered hits such as “Feel” before joining Saudi artist Ayed for a bilingual duet of “Angels,” merging Western pop with Arabic influences in a fully integrated performance. Lebanon’s Abeer Nehme and Angham further enriched the evening, with Angham collaborating with Polish guitarist Marcin on a medley infused with Latin guitar passages.
Genre fusion continued with operatic quartet Il Divo performing “I Will Always Love You,” followed by disco legend Liz Mitchell of Boney M., who brought classics like “Daddy Cool” and “Rasputin” to the stage. The combination of operatic vocals and disco beats created a stunning cross-genre spectacle.
The ceremony also featured high-profile appearances from global screen stars, including Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun from Squid Game, Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things, Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, and Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, who presented an award to Syrian singer Assala.
The Joy Awards 2026 reflects Saudi Arabia’s strategic push to become a global music hub. Beyond hosting international acts, Riyadh now contributes actively to the production of large-scale events, complementing its MDLBEAST Soundstorm festival, Formula 1-linked performances, and arena concerts. The awards show represents the city’s most broadcast-focused expression of this ambition, delivering world-class production and an immersive global experience.
