Pop Queen Katy Perry Unleashes Fiery Fury on Explosive New Single ‘Watch It Burn’!
Katy Perry has released her new single "Watch It Burn," a cathartic pop-rock anthem that sees her confronting a past relationship and embracing self-worth. The song's themes reflect her breakup with Orlando Bloom, while Perry also opened up about her emotional journey and her current relationship with Justin Trudeau.
Katy Perry has released her new single, "Watch It Burn," which debuted on Thursday night (June 25) alongside a cinematic new music video. As teased in previous previews, the visual features the pop star unleashing chaos as a monstrous scorpion-human hybrid.
The track is described as a cathartic pop-rock banger, with Perry performing it at events such as O Son do Camiño in Spain and Rock in Rio Lisboa before its official release. The song's core theme revolves around Perry reclaiming her life by concluding a long-term relationship. She sings about this transformation with lyrics such as, "Tonight’s the night, I light a match/ Throw it hard behind my back," and "Gonna try to forgive and forget/ Light a cigarette, and watch it burn." Perry further emphasizes her personal growth, stating in the lyrics, "I’m gonna get what I deserve … Finally I put myself first."
"Watch It Burn" marks Katy Perry’s first new music release since her November single "Bandaids." Prior to "Bandaids," her 2024 album, 143, achieved commercial success by reaching the No. 6 position on the Billboard 200 chart.
The new song's lyrics are believed to allude to Perry's breakup last year from her former fiancé, Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter named Daisy. During a discussion with cowriter Justin Tranter on his Unfamous podcast, Perry candidly spoke about her personal struggles, stating, "In ‘Watch It Burn,’ I am wrestling with my darkness, but last year was pretty tough." She also reflected on her suppressed emotions, admitting, "I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be f—king angry about. What I’ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be f—king angry. I’m allowed to be angry for a f—king moment."
In other personal news, Katy Perry is reportedly in a relationship with Justin Trudeau. She referred to him as "the love of my life" during a Q&A session at the premiere of her Lifetimes Tour concert film in New York earlier in June. Perry elaborated on their connection, saying, "I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored. To have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole."
