Political Betrayal? Omo-Agege Claims APC Abandoned Him in Delta

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has clarified his current political status, stating that he never actually left the All Progressives Congress (APC) but rather, the party itself abandoned him and his substantial base of supporters in Delta State. Omo-Agege made these remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, where he extensively discussed his political journey and the prevailing situation within the APC in Delta State.

According to Omo-Agege, the effective structure of the APC in Delta State deserted him and over 240,000 of his supporters. This critical development, he explained, was the primary catalyst for his ongoing political realignment. He emphatically reiterated, “I never left the APC, the APC left me and left my over 240,000 supporters in Delta State.”

Despite this significant political rift and change in allegiance, Omo-Agege affirmed that his position on the major economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu remains steadfast and unaltered. He provided a robust defense for the removal of fuel subsidy and the flotation of the naira, describing both policies as essential and necessary reforms that he has consistently advocated for. He further argued that these economic measures are not exclusive to the current administration, noting that similar policy concepts had been previously championed by other prominent political figures, including the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Omo-Agege underscored that while the reforms are undoubtedly necessary for economic advancement, their ultimate success will largely hinge on their proper implementation and the cultivation of public trust in the government’s overall policy direction. He concluded by stressing that effective execution, rather than the intrinsic nature of the policies themselves, will be the decisive factor in determining their positive impact on the lives of Nigerians and the broader national economy.
