Peter Obi Alleges Life Threats Ahead of 2027 Elections, Blames Tinubu Government

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections, has voiced serious fears for his safety, asserting that he may not survive to contest the upcoming election. He attributes these concerns to what he describes as deliberate efforts by the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to frustrate him and other opposition figures in Nigeria.

These significant remarks were made during an interview on 'With Chude,' hosted by media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, with excerpts shared on X. When questioned about his prospects of becoming a candidate in 2027, Obi expressed that his worries extended far beyond merely securing a party ticket. "Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you," Obi stated. He further elaborated, "Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive."

The former Anambra State governor clarified that he was not making a direct accusation against specific individuals but rather highlighting a consistent pattern of obstruction he experiences daily. "It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustrated every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal, it is not normal anymore. They won’t come directly and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’ but you can see their hand in virtually everything."

Obi also alleged that this treatment is not exclusive to him but extends to other opposition politicians. He claimed that "They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with the necessary things that I should have been entitled to, not at all."

To substantiate his claims, Obi recounted a recent incident at an airport where officials allegedly locked only his vehicle, leaving others untouched. "I had a case recently at the airport, where people who work in the airport came and locked my car. My car. And I said, ‘It’s me.’ The person in charge said he doesn’t care. But I said, ‘Look at the cars of other people.’ And you could see them talking to each other, as if, ‘Who is this one?’" he explained.

He further claimed that the prevailing atmosphere of intimidation has led some people to avoid greeting him publicly, fearing repercussions. Additionally, he noted that some individuals have even requested him not to attend family events due to concerns that his presence could attract unwanted attention. Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the Labour Party platform, recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election.
