Morgan Wallen Sparks Outrage After Phone-Tossing Incident in Pittsburgh, Issues Public Apology

Country music superstar Morgan Wallen has recently been at the center of several headline-making incidents during his "Still the Problem Tour," including an abrupt concert cancellation in Pittsburgh and a videoed phone-throwing moment, following an earlier onstage malfunction in Denver.

On Saturday, June 6, Wallen announced the cancellation of his scheduled concert at Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium. Citing severe weather conditions, Wallen posted on Instagram, "After talking with local officials and my team, there is no choice but to cancel tonight’s show due to severe weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night. Safety for my fans and crew is the highest priority." Hours later, he addressed criticism and speculation in an Instagram Stories video, explaining that his team advised the cancellation that morning after local officials warned of potentially dangerous wind conditions. Wallen emphasized the danger posed by his "large stage" in such conditions, stating it "could become fatal to a lot of folks around it." He also addressed "nonsense" circulating online about his behavior, asserting, "I’ve been seeing a lot of nonsense about me that is simply not true."

The weather concerns were substantiated by Saturday being designated a KDKA First Alert Weather Day, with forecasters predicting strong to severe storms for the Pittsburgh area, particularly between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. However, the cancellation drew skepticism from some fans who reported clear weather later that night and speculated Wallen had already left. KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin further fueled controversy by claiming Acrisure Stadium officials were "fuming," alleging Wallen left town on a plane before a meeting and demanded the cancellation announcement after he was airborne.

The Pittsburgh cancellation came just one night after another notable incident at the same venue. During his Friday, June 5, performance at Acrisure Stadium, Wallen was captured on video grabbing a cellphone from a security guard and flinging it across the stage. The video, posted on TikTok by user jcroo419, quickly went viral. Reports indicated the phone was passed forward by a fan hoping the guard would hand it to Wallen. The user's caption reflected a common sentiment: "I get it… security should be doing security things, but…."

These Pittsburgh events followed a turbulent week for Wallen. Days prior, during his Denver show, Wallen experienced an onstage meltdown when his piano appeared to malfunction during "Sand in My Boots," forcing him to finish a cappella. He then shoved the piano and flipped it over, breaking it on stage. Wallen later addressed this incident in a TikTok video, quipping, "Hey, I just want you to know that right now this piano is working. That’s what they told me last night, too."

Amidst these tour controversies, Wallen's music continues to see significant success. His current album, "I’m the Problem," released in May 2025, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the largest streaming week ever for a country album, and produced the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit "I’m the Problem." He also topped the Hot 100 in 2024 with "I Had Some Help" featuring Post Malone. His 2023 album, "One Thing at a Time," spent an impressive 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it one of the longest-running chart-toppers of the streaming era. The "Still the Problem Tour" is slated to continue across the U.S. throughout the summer, amidst his chart-dominating 2026.
