Gunmen Kill OSPAC Commander, and Three Women in Rivers State, Nigeria
The Rivers State Police Command has condemned the recent killing of OSPAC Zonal Commander Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha and three women in Omoku, Rivers State, promising to bring the perpetrators to justice. The tragic incident, which also left two injured, threatens the state's peace and has prompted calls for increased security collaboration and community support for ongoing investigations.
The Rivers State Police Command has condemned the killing of the Omoku Zonal Commander of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, and three women during an attack in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
The victims were reportedly ambushed by suspected gunmen at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday while sitting near Nwaocha's residence along Oba Road. Two other persons sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to the police, the attack is a grave threat to the peace and security of the state. The Rivers State Police Command described the incident as "gruesome, unfortunate and disturbing," assuring residents that investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those responsible. One of the injured victims was identified as Obidi Emenike.
The police have appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could aid the investigation, promising confidentiality for all tips received. The Commissioner of Police has urged community-based security outfits, including OSPAC, to strengthen collaboration with the police under the supervision of divisional and area commanders.
Meanwhile, OSPAC officials have appealed for calm among residents and called on the Rivers State Government to provide greater welfare and operational support for its personnel. Security operatives have since intensified patrols in Omoku to maintain order and reassure residents.
