This vehicle is built on the new Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture, or MB.EA, a platform that first debuted with the EV version of the GLC-Class SUV. The MB.EA architecture is set to underpin future all-electric models, including the next-generation E-Class, S-Class, and their respective SUV counterparts. Positioned to compete directly, the C-Class EV will go battery-to-battery against the equally new 2027 BMW i3 electric sedan.

While competitor Neue Klasse BMWs have embraced a more edgy style, Mercedes has opted for a more traditional and understated design approach for the C-Class EV. This conservative aesthetic might not win over everyone at first glance, potentially disappointing some who desire flashier looks, but it aims to placate loyalists. The new C EV's overall shape features a low and flat front paired with a rounded rear. However, design elements such as the new grille, with its wide chrome frame, 1,050 points of light, and a star pattern in the smoked glass-look mesh, could be perceived as either too subtle or too flamboyant, depending on individual taste. Further contributing to its distinct yet potentially polarizing visual identity are the illuminated Mercedes star and round headlamps with their star pattern design. Ultimately, its true appeal, as suggested, is often revealed through its dynamic driving experience.

A first drive experience on a track near Helsinki, Finland, in a 2027 Mercedes-Benz C400 4Matic provided ample opportunity to appreciate its cutting-edge dynamics. Equipped with a second electric motor on the front axle, the C400 4Matic boasts impressive acceleration, capable of reaching 0 to 60 mph in approximately four seconds. For enhanced efficiency under low load conditions, this front motor intelligently disengages. Pushing the C-Class EV through hot laps, following a professional driver, offered a far better sense of its aggressive acceleration and robust braking capabilities than could be detected during a public road drive from Helsinki to the performance center facility.

Depending on the specification, the 2027 C-Class EV will be available with either the standard steel spring suspension or an optional air suspension system, with the test cars being equipped with the latter.
