Less than a year after the release of Tha Carter VI, acclaimed rapper Lil Wayne has hinted at the next installment in his iconic album series, Tha Carter VII. During an interview with Wake Up Barstool on Tuesday, May 26, Weezy stated that Tha Carter VII is "coming soon." However, he tempered expectations by clarifying that he's unsure if it will be his immediate next album, emphasizing that he has "music for days" on deck.

Wayne elaborated on his unique creative process for albums, which involves an unidentified person or entity taking a collection of his songs and then dictating the album's title, tracklist, and overall direction. While it remains vague whether he is referring to his management team or record label's involvement, this method highlights a distinct approach to his releases. He explained, "What they do is they come in here and grab a bunch of songs and put a title, ‘This Carter VII. Carter VII coming soon.’ I make so many types of music and so many genres. Whenever we have different subjects as long as I have a song about everything."

His previous album, Tha Carter VI, arrived in June of the prior year and achieved a No. 2 debut on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 108,000 total album units. Despite its commercial performance, the project notably faced a critical reception that was largely negative. Lil Wayne has not yet released a single in 2026.

Beyond his music, Wayne also shared his reaction to fellow artist Drake getting a portrait of his face tattooed on his arm. Weezy expressed surprise at Drake's gesture, describing him as a "surprising type of guy" who "loves surprising people." However, Wayne playfully lamented that he had no remaining space on his own body to reciprocate the tattoo.

Looking ahead, Lil Wayne is preparing for a busy summer schedule. He is set to embark on a North American tour, celebrating more than two decades of his influential Tha Carter series. Additionally, he is venturing into the podcast world, launching "The Joint Venture" with WFAN radio personality Craig Carton. The new podcast is scheduled to debut with a live episode at Fanatics Fest in New York City on July 19.
