President Bola Tinubu, after performing congregational prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, urged Nigerians to deepen the values of tolerance, generosity, and peaceful coexistence. He specifically asked citizens to shun ethnic divisions and all forms of hatred that undermine national unity, emphasizing that the sacred occasion remains a reminder of obedience, sacrifice, love for humanity, and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. President Tinubu underscored that Nigeria's strength lies in its diversity and common humanity, noting that no ethnic, religious, or political difference should outweigh the collective aspiration for peace, progress, and national development. He further stated that banditry has no place in holy teachings, highlighting the value placed on human life. Dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, former Governor Babatunde Fashola, Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, joined the President at the event.

Echoing these sentiments, Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with government ministries, agencies, and organizations, called on Nigerians to embrace unity, sacrifice, compassion, and peaceful coexistence. In his Eid-el-Kabir message, the Vice President urged citizens to reflect on the values of faith, obedience, sacrifice, and compassion exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, stating that these lessons are vital for Nigeria’s quest for peace, stability, and inclusive development. He emphasized that what binds Nigerians together is greater than what divides them and that national development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of division and mistrust. Mr. Shettima also reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to addressing insecurity, stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and expanding opportunities for citizens. He acknowledged that ongoing reforms require patience and sacrifice but described them as necessary steps towards rebuilding a stronger nation, appealing for continued support for the government’s reform agenda. The Vice President also commended members of the armed forces and security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting the country.

Further enriching the national dialogue, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), through its President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, urged Nigerian leaders to govern with conscience and show greater concern for citizens grappling with rising living costs, insecurity, and economic pressure. CAN emphasized that the spirit of sacrifice should not rest only on ordinary citizens, adding that leaders must also demonstrate sacrifice through honesty, service, and compassion. Archbishop Okoh highlighted that Nigerians measure hardship through skipped meals, unpaid school fees, and struggling businesses. The association also cautioned against allowing hardship to fuel ethnic or religious divisions, reminding all that challenges like insecurity, poverty, and hunger affect everyone regardless of religion or tribe. CAN additionally appealed to wealthy Nigerians and organizations to support vulnerable populations such as widows, orphans, displaced persons, and struggling families during the Sallah period.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State also extended his congratulations to Muslims in Nigeria, urging them to pray for peace, unity, and national progress. In a goodwill message, Governor Soludo described Eid-el-Kabir as a significant spiritual period reflecting the virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and commitment to the common good of humanity. He called upon Muslim faithful to use the occasion to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and charity across communities, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences. Governor Soludo emphasized that the essence of the Sallah celebration should inspire Nigerians to work collectively towards enduring peace and accelerated development in the country, reiterating his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Anambra State.
