KATSEYE's Wildworld Tour Update: Sophia's Critical Status Revealed!
KATSEYE has updated fans on leader Sophia Laforteza's continued hiatus, confirming she will miss the upcoming Wildworld Tour in Europe and the UK to focus on her well-being. Her mother shared that Sophia is engaging in low-key activities like visiting Disneyland and pursuing hobbies while prioritizing her mental health. The remaining members continue promotions as the group celebrates recent chart successes.
International girl group KATSEYE has provided its devoted fanbase, EYEKONS, with a crucial update regarding the status of its leader, Sophia Laforteza. Following the announcement of her temporary hiatus in early August, the group confirmed on Sunday, August 30, that Sophia will not be participating in the upcoming Wildworld Tour dates scheduled for Europe and the UK, which are set to run from September 1 through September 7.
In a message shared across social media platforms including Instagram Stories and Weverse, and signed by both HYBE and Geffen Records, KATSEYE stated, "Sophia is focusing on her well-being, and the company remains fully committed to providing her with all the support and resources needed." The group emphasized their priority, adding, "We sincerely ask for EYEKONS’ warm understanding, as our highest priority will always be the health and long-term well-being of our artists." Fans were encouraged to continue sending their love and support to both Sophia and KATSEYE, with promises of further updates as they become available.
Sophia’s break from group activities was initially confirmed by HYBE x Geffen on August 7, citing her need to temporarily step away from promotional duties to concentrate on her mental health and wellness. The company confirmed that she has been receiving dedicated support, and following consultations with medical professionals, was advised to take an extended period of rest and ongoing care. Her condition was slated for reassessment in September, according to reports from the Los Angeles Times.
Offering a personal glimpse into Sophia's time away, her mother, actress Carla Guevara-Laforteza, recently shared insights with Vogue Philippines. She revealed that Sophia has been engaging in decidedly more low-key activities while prioritizing her well-being. "At present, Sophia is on hiatus," Guevara-Laforteza explained. "She goes to Disneyland every day; she’s baking, she’s painting. She’s literally doing everything to get mentally well."
Sophia's hiatus follows a similar decision by fellow KATSEYE member Manon, who also stepped away from group activities in February to focus on her health. Despite these temporary absences, the remaining members—Lara, Daniela, Yoonchae, and Megan—have continued to promote the group's latest music, including a recent appearance at Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival on August 29. KATSEYE has rapidly emerged as a breakout global pop phenomenon, notably achieving its first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with its EP WILD, which features the Billboard Hot 100 tracks “Pinky Up” and “Gnarly.”
