Kano Nomination Scandal: Kwankwaso Accused of Hijacking Forms, Faces Legal Battle

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Northwest Stakeholders Forum has announced its intention to pursue legal action against former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. This decision stems from grave allegations concerning the alleged purchase of nomination forms for 69 elective positions under the PRP's platform. The forum asserts that these forms were acquired by an individual who is not a registered member of the PRP, a development it unequivocally describes as a significant threat to the party's internal democracy.

During a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Kano on Sunday, Abdulkadir Musa, the Chairman of the PRP Northwest Stakeholders Forum, publicly laid out these allegations. Musa explicitly linked the alleged action to Senator Kwankwaso, framing it as a deliberate attempt to hijack the party’s structure and unfairly deny genuine, deserving members the opportunity to contest in upcoming elections. He emphasized that the confirmation of this purchase for all 69 elective positions by a non-member represented a serious breach.

Musa further condemned the alleged move as a form of “political robbery,” warning that such actions are highly capable of generating confusion and disputes within the electoral process. The affected elective positions are comprehensive, spanning governorship, National Assembly seats, and various State Assembly seats. The PRP chieftain highlighted that the party already has credible members who are interested in contesting under its banner, many of whom have been chosen through consensus, and their rights to participate must be rigorously protected.

The forum issued a direct appeal to Senator Kwankwaso, urging him to allow political parties to operate with independence and adhere to democratic principles. They specifically requested that the PRP be spared from what they perceive as a deliberate attempt to interfere with its internal affairs and processes. Musa issued a stern warning that the party would not hesitate to pursue legal redress if the alleged interference persists, stating that legal action would be their only recourse to defend the integrity and independence of the party.

Concluding his remarks, the chairman also noted that similar developments have reportedly occurred in other political parties, cautioning that such interventions could gravely undermine the broader democratic process. He assured the public that the PRP would provide more specific details and supporting documentation regarding the matter at a subsequent date, further substantiating their claims.
