Jordan - Jordan-withdraws-from-match-against-"Israel"-in-U-19-Basketball-World-Cup
The Jordan U-19 basketball team has withdrawn from its scheduled match against “Israel” in the Group C of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, currently taking place in Switzerland.
The decision came following discussions between the team’s technical and administrative staff and was directly approved by the federation’s board of directors.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) confirmed Jordan’s withdrawal in an official statement, awarding “Israel” a 20-0 win by default in accordance with tournament regulations.
The decision sparked widespread support across social media platforms, where users and activists across the Arab world praised Jordan’s stance.
Many described the move as a “moral victory greater than any sporting result,” affirming that “the Palestinian cause is indivisible.”
The Jordan Basketball Federation (JBF) issued a statement on the matter:
"Following correspondence between the Jordan Basketball Federation and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) regarding the Jordan U-19 national team’s scheduled match against “Israel” in the FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup, currently taking place in Switzerland, the Jordanian federation formally requested not to participate in the match, which was set for Sunday, June 29.
“In response, FIBA decided to cancel the game and announced that the result would be awarded to the opposing team in accordance with tournament regulations,” the statement concluded.
