Qatar - Toulouse-crowned-champions-as-FIBA-3X3-Lusail-Challenger-International-championship-concludes
The FIBA 3X3 Lusail Challenger International championship, organized by the Qatar Basketball Federation, was concluded yesterday (May 3, 2025) in cooperation with the Qatar Diar Company, and under the supervision of the International Basketball Federation Fiba.
The championship witnessed a distinguished participation of 16 teams of international teams that represent various continents, reflecting the position of the large championship on the international scene of 3 x 3.
Among the teams that participated in this version were teams from Europe, such as French Toulouse, Lehman and Partizan Serbian, Swiss Logano, Candafa Latvi, Lithuanian Condaian, and Spain.
The list of teams also included clubs from the Americas such as Carolina (Puerto Rico) and New York Harlem (USA), as well as the Rwandan Kigali and Japanese Nichinomia from Asia and Africa.
Participation was not limited to foreign teams. Five teams from the host country, Qatar, participated in the championship, namely: Al -Wakra, Al -Rayyan, Al -Gharafa, Al -Khor and Doha.
Toulouse crowned tournament champions
In a busy sporting scene, Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaisib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, and Engineer Fahd Abdel Latif Al-Jahrami, Head of the Development and Asset Management Sector- from the Qatari Diar Company, crowned the French Toulouse team as the champion of the "Lusail 3 x 3 Challenger International" champion, after winning the final game against the Serbian team of Lyman (20-18).
This game came to conclude the championship competitions, which witnessed exciting matches and strong competition from all teams.
The tournament also witnessed exciting semi-final matches, as the Lehman team managed to beat the Serbian Partizan team (19-17), while Toulouse qualified for the final after beating Carolina (Portorico) with a score of 17-15.
This victory is a source of pride for the Toulouse team, which has proven its strength on the international scene.
The first three teams qualified to participate in the next global round, which will be held in the Dutch city of Amsterdam from May 17-18.
Distinguished official and public presence
The closing day of the tournament was attended by Mohammed bin Saad Al-Maghaisib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Engineer Fahd Abdul Latif Al-Jahrami, Head of the Development and Asset Management Sector- from the Qatari Diyar Company, Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation, and members of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Basketball Federation, and Captain Yassin Ismail, Director of the 3 x 3 Committee in the Qatar Basketball Federation, as the event witnessed the presence of the event.
A large crowd, as the public gave the enthusiastic atmosphere that raised the tournament level.
The Lusail 3 x 3 Challenger International Championship is an important step towards strengthening Qatar's position on the global sports map, as it is part of the series of events held in Qatar in preparation for hosting the 2027 basketball World Cup.
The tournament is also an important station in the way of qualifying for the "Master" rounds within the World 3 x 3 round, which reflects Qatar's deep commitment to the development of sport and enhancing its position in the international sports scene.
For his part, Muhammad bin Saad Al -Maghaisib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, stressed that the tournament achieved an exceptional success at all levels, whether in terms of organization, public presence or strong competition between the teams.
Al -Maghaisib said: “We are proud of the high organizational and technical level in this championship, which is one of the stations that qualify for the global Masters rounds.
Al -Mughaisib pointed out that the State of Qatar has become a prominent sports destination to host the major international championships in 3 x 3.
Al -Mughaisib added: “We seize this occasion to invite the teams and the visiting masses to discover the tourist attractions in Qatar, such as the Waqif Heritage Souk and the Doha Corniche, in addition to the entertainment areas such as the pearl island and Celine.”
In the same context, Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al -Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation, expressed his appreciation for all the efforts made to make the championship a success, stressing that the tournament contributed to raising the level of friction for the Qatari teams.
Al -Kuwari said: "We continue to support this type of tournament because it provides a great opportunity to friction with the global teams, and enhance our players' technical experiences and give them the opportunity to develop."
Al -Kuwari added that the presence of a group of international teams in Qatar contributes to the publication of basketball game and the enhancement of Qatar's position on the global sport map.
For his part, Eng. Fahd Abdul Latif Al-Jahrami, Head of the Development and Asset Management Sector- from the Qatar Diar Company, expressed his deep thanks to the Qatar Basketball Federation for the distinguished organization of the tournament, stressing that hosting the championship in the Lusail region is an important step towards making it a global sports center.
Al -Jahrami added: “We at the Qatar Diar Company are working to make Lusail a sporting, cultural and tourist destination at the same time, and through this tournament, we confirmed Qatar’s great position in organizing major sporting events.”
