Dangote Reduces Petrol Prices Again

Dangote Refinery has announced a fresh reduction in the pump price of petrol, decreasing it by about N15 per litre nationwide. Prices will now range from N875 to N905 per litre, depending on the location within the country. The refinery has partnered with filling stations such as MRS, Ardova, Heyden, Optima Energy, Techno Oil, and Hyde Energy to ensure Nigerians have access to affordable, high-quality products.

In Lagos, motorists will now pay N875 per litre, a decrease from N890. The North-east and South-south regions will see prices drop to N905 per litre from N920. Other South-west states will pay N885 per litre, while the North-west and Central regions will pay N895. Dangote Refinery encourages customers to purchase fuel from its partner outlets, emphasizing that its petrol and diesel are refined for better engine performance and are environmentally friendly.

The refinery management has praised the federal government’s naira-for-crude policy, which they believe has helped stabilize prices, ensuring petrol remains affordable. In addition to the price reduction, Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced an exclusive partnership with Premier Product Marketing LLC, a Vinmar company, to distribute Dangote Polypropylene to global markets outside Nigeria and Africa.

Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, stated that this agreement coincides with the launch of polypropylene production at the Dangote refinery and petrochemical complex in Lekki, Lagos. Polypropylene is used in packaging, automotive parts, textiles, construction materials, and medical devices due to its durability, chemical resistance, and lightweight properties. The plant is designed to produce high-quality polypropylene grades for various applications.

Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director (Commercial), noted that Dangote Polypropylene will become a global brand known for quality and reliability. Vishal Goradia, Chief Executive of Vinmar Group, expressed pride in expanding the relationship with Dangote, supporting the global launch of Dangote Polypropylene. The petrochemical plant, valued at $2 billion, can produce 77 grades of polypropylene with an annual capacity of 900,000 metric tonnes and an expected turnover of $1.2 billion.

The price adjustments reflect a N15 cut in Lagos, as confirmed via the company’s official X handle. This is the third price slash by the refinery in recent months, aiming to support affordable fuel access for consumers amid currency volatility and high import costs. Despite these reductions, pump prices at many retail outlets remain unchanged, showing disparities across regions and supply channels. Some members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) are selling petrol below Dangote’s revised prices, particularly in Lagos and parts of the southwest.

The Guardian reported that retail prices between N860 and N870 per litre at certain IPMAN outlets undercut Dangote’s N875 benchmark due to competition and flexible cost structures. These varying pump prices highlight the complexities within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, including transportation costs, supply chain inefficiencies, and regional demand-supply imbalances. National President of IPMAN, Abubakar Shettima, explained that IPMAN members can offer lower prices because they source products directly from refineries like Dangote’s, bypassing intermediaries and reducing costs.

Shettima emphasized that IPMAN’s direct sourcing model contributes to price stability and improved petrol availability across Nigeria. He noted that IPMAN members, who operate thousands of outlets nationwide, prioritize quick sales and restocking, allowing them to sell below the rates of major marketers. Dangote Petroleum commits to stable petrol prices amid global fluctuations, reaffirming its dedication to providing high-quality petrol at affordable rates for the benefit of consumers nationwide.
