Horrifying Shower Accident: Woman's Nipple Severely Injured in Freak Mishap

Tilly Yeats, a 19-year-old university student, experienced a shocking incident in her hall's bathroom that left her nipple severely injured. While showering, her nipple piercing became caught in the shower door. As she opened the door, the piercing was ripped out, taking a significant chunk of flesh with it. She described the horrifying scene as "half of my nipple was flapping off and the piercing was completely ripped out and hanging by a thread of skin."
Immediately after the mishap, Tilly, despite being generally good with blood, felt she might pass out due to the sheer amount of bleeding. She quickly sought help from friends in a different flat, who came to her aid. Her friends had to carefully cut the piece of skin that was still attached to the piercing and attempt to plaster the nipple back into place.
Despite the initial shock, Tilly initially wanted to continue her evening, but the persistent bleeding prompted her to call 111. She was advised to go to A&E in Exeter. Upon arrival, she was seen quickly, which she believes was due to the heavy bleeding. The medical staff were largely unfamiliar with such an injury; one nurse had never seen it before, while another recalled a single similar case that required surgery, raising Tilly's fears.
Fortunately, all the pieces of her nipple were still present, though detached, meaning surgery was not necessary. A nurse was able to skillfully stitch the nipple back together. Tilly expressed relief that her nipple "doesn’t look dishevelled," though she noted a slight visible tear where the pieces were reattached and lines indicating where it ripped.
Now, Tilly feels "absolutely fine," although she occasionally experiences some pain, which she attributes to the ongoing healing process. Despite the traumatic event, it hasn't deterred her from future body modifications. She emphasized that the incident was a rare occurrence and "completely a fault on my behalf" due to her lack of awareness when getting in and out of the shower. She still cherishes the confidence her piercings brought her and wishes she could get the injured one redone, encouraging others to pursue piercings safely in professional shops. Tilly shared her "worst day of her life" story on TikTok, where it garnered over 90,000 views, undoubtedly creating a "new fear" for many viewers.
