Hollywood Stars Unite: Ridley, Mod, Clark Lead 'Pride and Prejudice' Reading for Gaza Aid

A special one-off table read of Jane Austen's classic novel “Pride and Prejudice” is being organized in London to raise crucial funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians. This significant event is spearheaded by the Cinema for Gaza group, known for its successful fundraising efforts, including an auction last year that garnered over £250,000 ($316,000) for the same charity.
The star-studded table read is scheduled for October 12 at the Troxy in East London and will be hosted by Nish Kumar. A distinguished list of actors is confirmed to participate, including Ambika Mod, Daisy Ridley, Morfydd Clark, Jameela Jamil, Susan Wokoma, Mawaan Rizwan, Priya Kansara, Amar Chadha-Patel, Jeff Mirza, Shazia Mirza, and Asim Chaudhry. Additional names are anticipated to be announced for what promises to be a “fun and imaginative tribute to Austen’s enduring tale.” The event will be directed by Nida Manzoor, creator of “We Are Lady Parts.”
The description of the event playfully highlights the occasion, marking the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth. Attendees are invited to “witness the unsuspecting Mr. Bingley going toe-to-toe with the Bennett family, as Mr Darcy puts his foot in his mouth every time he encounters the vexing, intriguing Elizabeth Bennett. Enjoy withering wit, some top-notch repressed flirting, and hard-won happy endings.”
Cinema for Gaza has emphasized that all proceeds from the evening will directly support Medical Aid for Palestinians’ lifesaving initiatives. This includes their polyclinic in Gaza, which continues its operations despite ongoing challenges such as Israel’s bombardment, siege, and forced displacement orders. The clinic is vital, supporting hundreds of patients daily by providing essential healthcare services like psychosocial support, physiotherapy, and medication for chronic conditions.
