Harvesting the Future: Egyptian Startup Egrobots Unveils Revolutionary Homegrown Robot
Egrobots, an innovative startup founded in Egypt in 2023 by Akhlad Alabhar and Amr Saleh, has unveiled an advanced autonomous agricultural harvesting robot, signaling a significant local advancement in robotics, artificial intelligence, and farm automation. Developed by Egyptian engineers, this cutting-edge machine leverages AI, computer vision, and autonomous navigation capabilities to meticulously identify ripe crops, efficiently traverse farm landscapes, and execute harvesting tasks with minimal human intervention. The robot's design allows it to be equipped with up to four robotic arms, enabling it to harvest approximately 160 kilograms of produce per hour while operating continuously around the clock.
The primary objective behind the robot's development is to provide crucial support to farms struggling with escalating labor shortages, increasing operating costs, and the pressing need to minimize waste during critical harvest periods. Given that agriculture across vast stretches of the region remains highly labor-intensive, automation is emerging as a critical focus area for both food producers and technology companies.
