Goodwood 2026 Unleashes Future: Witness the Coolest Tech Cars!
The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed captivated audiences despite a heatwave, showcasing an array of high-performance vehicles. Among the stars were the Subaru Brataroo, making its impressive competitive debut, and the Toyota GR GT, which offered its dynamic premiere as a new V-8-powered halo supercar.
The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed once again delivered unparalleled automotive thrills, despite an intense heatwave that tested attendees. This annual spectacle, renowned for its endless stream of Formula 1 racers, multi-million-dollar hypercars, vintage sports cars, and exotic one-offs tackling the legendary hillclimb circuit, maintained its intoxicating atmosphere. The roaring sounds of engines, the distinctive smell of gasoline, and palpable enthusiasm and adrenaline filled the air, making it a blast furnace of petrol-fueled madness. Among the many incredible vehicles, two stood out as particular highlights: the Subaru Brataroo and the Toyota GR GT.
The Subaru Brataroo made an impressive competitive debut at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, piloted by superstar extreme driver Travis Pastrana. It secured fourth overall in the Timed Shootout, earning the distinction of being the fastest internal-combustion-powered entry in the field, finishing only behind three all-electric prototypes. This performance showcased its incredible capabilities against some of the quickest machines at the event, including a Formula E race car. The Brataroo is a modern interpretation of the classic Subaru BRAT, specifically created for the latest Gymkhana film. Powering this beast is a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer four engine, producing a formidable 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, revving beyond 9,500 rpm. Its advanced design features a carbon-fiber body, all-wheel drive, and an sophisticated active aerodynamic system, including movable front louvers and an adjustable rear wing, making it one of the most technically advanced Gymkhana cars Subaru has ever constructed. Due to its Gymkhana origins, Subaru engineers had to extensively modify the vehicle's setup to optimize its turning and handling through the numerous corners of the Goodwood hill climb.
The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed also hosted the dynamic debut of the Toyota GR GT, marking the public's first opportunity to see the company's new halo supercar in action. Crowds consistently packed the Toyota Gazoo Racing stand throughout the weekend, eager to witness this new machine. Although the GR GT did not compete in the Timed Shootout, the sight and sound of the new V-8-powered Toyota storming up the hill generated immense attention. Under its hood, a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged hybrid V-8 engine delivers 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. This power is routed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Goodwood provided enthusiasts with their most detailed look yet at what is anticipated to become Toyota's most significant performance car since the iconic Lexus LFA, and potentially its most ambitious road car ever developed.
