Gaming Legend Hits the Big Screen: First Zelda Movie Images Wow Fans with 'Near-Perfect' Adaptation!

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Nintendo's beloved video game franchise, The Legend of Zelda, has officially entered production. Fans can mark their calendars for May 7, 2027, as the film is slated to hit theaters worldwide on this date. Nintendo has provided an exciting update by releasing the first three official images from the set, confirming that filming is now underway.
These newly unveiled stills offer the very first glimpse of the film's lead actors in character. Bo Bragason is confirmed to portray the iconic Princess Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth takes on the role of the courageous hero, Link. One of the released images showcases the duo together against a picturesque backdrop, hinting at the visual aesthetics of the movie. While the exact duration of the production phase remains unspecified, with cameras now rolling, the film appears to be on track to meet its ambitious 2027 release date.
Although specific plot details for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie are largely being kept under wraps, the project boasts a strong creative team. The screenplay is being penned by T.S. Nowlin and Derek Connolly. Connolly is particularly recognized for his contributions to blockbuster films, including the Chris Pratt-led Jurassic World series, Kong: Skull Island, and The Rise of Skywalker. He is also reportedly involved in another significant video game adaptation, Metal Gear Solid, alongside Hideo Kojima.
Behind the camera, Wes Ball is at the helm as director. Ball recently directed the 2024 reboot, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and made his directorial debut with The Maze Runner in 2014, going on to direct its sequels in 2015 and 2018. His proven track record of directing successful fantasy and action films, combined with his publicly expressed passion for the Zelda series, positions him as an ideal choice to bring this beloved world to the big screen. The film's producers include Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, and Avi Arad.
Beyond Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Nintendo has not yet announced additional cast members for The Legend of Zelda. However, with production now in full swing, it is anticipated that more casting news will emerge as actors are spotted on set. The potential for a sequel to The Legend of Zelda film is also a topic of speculation; while no plans have been confirmed, the decision will undoubtedly hinge on the film's box office performance and critical reception. Given the immense popularity and long-standing legacy of the video game series, its expansion into a film franchise would not be surprising. The movie is categorized under Adventure, Fantasy, and Action genres.
