Planet Fitness has significantly expanded its presence on Long Island with the opening of its newest facility in Holbrook, marking the gym giant's 30th location in the region. Situated at 5705 Sunrise Highway within the Sun Lakes Shopping Center, the expansive 19,000-square-foot gym is equipped with a comprehensive range of amenities designed to cater to a diverse clientele.

According to general manager Victoria Gigliotti, the new Holbrook gym boasts state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, dedicated functional training areas, and specialized wellness facilities including a hot and cold therapy bed, tanning services, and a spa. The facility commenced operations with an impressive membership base of over 3,000 individuals, and its strategic location on Sunrise Highway is expected to attract residents from Brookhaven and Islip towns, as well as a wider demographic due to its high visibility and heavy traffic flow.

This Holbrook opening is part of Planet Fitness's broader strategy of rapid expansion both domestically and internationally. The public company demonstrated substantial growth last year, opening 181 new gyms, with a significant portion (104) launched between October and December. As reported by CEO Colleen Keating to stock analysts in February, Planet Fitness now operates nearly 2,900 locations globally and anticipates opening an additional 180 to 190 gyms throughout the current year. This current growth builds upon a solid foundation, as Newsday previously reported the company had 17 local gyms just seven years prior.

Financially, the Hampton, New Hampshire-based company reported a robust profit of $219 million for the year ending December 31, 2025, generated from revenues totaling $1.3 billion. The new Holbrook gym contributes to the company's operational strength, employing a team of 13 staff members. A grand opening celebration, featuring various giveaways, is scheduled for Thursday to officially commemorate the new facility's launch.
