Ex-Boss Arrested in Chilling Lucy Letby Murder Probe: Perverting Justice Allegations Rock Hospital

A former senior boss at the Countess of Chester Hospital, where Lucy Letby committed her crimes, has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. This arrest, made by officers from Cheshire Constabulary on a Wednesday in April, is part of Operation Duet, an ongoing investigation into corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter at the hospital. The individual, whose age and gender were not disclosed, was subsequently bailed pending further inquiries. This suspect was previously among three former hospital bosses arrested last June on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, highlighting the deepening legal scrutiny into the hospital's former leadership.

Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse, is currently serving a whole-life prison sentence, specifically 15 whole-life orders, after being convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others on the neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016. She continues to deny these allegations and is actively challenging her convictions through the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which reviews potential miscarriages of justice for referral to the court of appeal. Letby has already made two unsuccessful attempts to overturn her convictions at the Court of Appeal in London, with her case now under review by the CCRC since February of last year, aided by new evidence submitted by her defense team from international experts who claim no murders occurred and attribute deaths to natural causes or poor care.

Operation Duet, initiated in October 2023 after Letby’s first trial, initially focused on corporate manslaughter. Simultaneously, a public inquiry, chaired by Lady Justice Thirlwall, examined the role of hospital bosses and concluded its evidence hearings in March 2025. Although its report was anticipated in early 2026, the inquiry recently stated that work on the report is ongoing and a release date cannot yet be confirmed.

Hospital management has faced severe criticism regarding their handling of the escalating crisis. An independent report, which was commissioned by the Countess after Letby's initial arrest in July 2018 and later leaked, revealed that managers were
