Horror in Ogun: Pastor Kills Wife Over Infidelity, Takes Own Life in Tragic Incident
A tragic murder-suicide has rocked Ogooluwa community in Ogun State after a Celestial Church pastor allegedly killed his wife during a domestic dispute rooted in infidelity accusations, then took his own life. The shocking incident, which unfolded amidst long-standing marital conflicts and pending court proceedings, has prompted a police investigation and left the community in deep mourning.
Residents of Ogooluwa community in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State were plunged into deep mourning on Monday, August 31, following a harrowing domestic tragedy. Bidemi Odukoya, the Shepherd of the Iri Orun Parish of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), allegedly murdered his wife during a midnight dispute before taking his own life.
The tragic events unfolded amidst long-standing allegations of infidelity from both the husband and wife. According to community leaders, the couple had been embroiled in persistent domestic conflicts, which had previously led to police intervention and pending court proceedings. It was revealed that they were even scheduled to appear in court over their marital crisis just two days after the incident, on Wednesday, in an attempt to amicably resolve their differences.
The fatal argument began at about 2 AM on Monday when Odukoya allegedly accused his wife of having an affair, while she, in turn, accused him of seeing another woman from his church. The heated exchange quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. During the fight, the clergyman reportedly used a machete and a heavy wooden stool to inflict severe head injuries on his wife, leaving her lifeless in a pool of blood.
Their 14-year-old son, Daniel, witnessed the gruesome attack and immediately ran out to alert neighbors. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Oseni, a neighbor who rushed to the scene, recounted finding the wife's body with a broken head. She confronted Odukoya, who was still holding a cutlass, asking him why he had gone to such an extreme. Odukoya calmly responded, stating, “he too was as good as gone.”
Following the attack, Odukoya, a father of three boys, fled the community towards the Coker junction along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ifo, approximately a 20-minute drive away. Eyewitnesses at the expressway observed him pacing repeatedly before sitting on the median. At around 7:00 AM, he reportedly threw himself in front of an oncoming heavy-duty truck, resulting in his instant death.
Both husband and wife were interred side-by-side behind their three-bedroom bungalow residence, which sits adjacent to their church, on Monday evening. The Ogun State Police Command's spokesperson, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation into the murder-suicide had commenced and the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for diligent inquiry.
Community leaders expressed profound shock and grief over the tragedy. Seun Adelana, the Youth Leader of Akiode community, reiterated that mutual infidelity allegations were believed to be the primary cause of the violent altercation. Chief Oluwasegun Adeboye, a 76-year-old community leader, highlighted the unfulfilled court appearance. The Baale of Akiode community, Chief Taiwo Akiode, conveyed his bewilderment, stating that this unfortunate incident was the first of its kind in the environment and a tragedy of monumental proportion that no one saw coming, finding it difficult to reconcile the peaceful couple he knew with such a brutal end.
