Mr. Dodzi Addison Mornyuie, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Central Tongu, has called on the youth in the district to take full advantage of government employment and apprenticeship initiatives aimed at providing sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Mornyuie encouraged young people to enroll in the government’s National Apprenticeship Program and other youth employment schemes designed to equip them with practical skills for the job market.

“These programs are life-changing opportunities that will help many of our young people build sustainable careers. We must take advantage of them to clamp down on social vices and youth idleness in our communities,” the DCE stated.
He emphasized that active youth participation in these initiatives will not only reduce unemployment but also contribute to peace and development in Central Tongu.

Mr. Mornyuie further revealed that the government has opened application portals for recruitment into the Police Assistant and Fire Service Assistant programs. He urged eligible youth to register and take part in these initiatives to secure stable employment.

“These are excellent opportunities. I encourage every qualified young person to apply. Getting involved in these programs is a step towards self-reliance and community responsibility,” he said.
He stressed that unemployment is often a major contributor to rising social vices and reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting any intervention that empowers the youth and keeps them engaged productively.

Touching on the education sector, Mr. Mornyuie acknowledged the challenge of teacher shortages in some parts of Central Tongu. He noted that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) would soon enroll temporary teaching staff into schools as part of efforts to ease the pressure.

“Through the youth employment initiative, we are working to temporarily fill the gap while we wait for permanent teacher postings,” he explained.

The DCE also assured that the government is committed to addressing the long-term teacher deficit in the district by facilitating the posting of more trained teachers to underserved communities.

“We are actively engaging the Ghana Education Service to ensure that more teachers are deployed to Central Tongu. Quality education cannot thrive without adequate teaching personnel,” he added.

Mr. Mornyuie urged the youth to embrace these opportunities not only as a path to personal development but as a contribution to the district’s overall progress.
