Doja Cat Electrifies Africa with Historic First-Ever Performance at Global Citizen's Move Afrika!

Global Citizen’s Move Afrika: Kigali delivered an unforgettable night where music met purpose at the BK Arena on March 17, 2026, in Kigali, Rwanda. This vibrant event brought together live music, community engagement, and citizen-led advocacy, marking another successful edition of Global Citizen’s return to the arena.

Headlining the night was Doja Cat, who captivated the sold-out crowd with an electrifying set. Her performance featured a string of hits, including “Paint The Town Red,” “Woman,” “Streets,” “Need to Know,” and “Jealous Type.” During her set, Doja Cat paused to express her gratitude and emotion, sharing a heartfelt moment with the audience: “This is my first time in Africa… I love you… thank you so much Rwanda.” The energy was further amplified by DJ IRAA, who also took to the stage, adding her unique flavour to the celebration of both global and homegrown talent.

Beyond the captivating performances, Move Afrika is evolving into a movement with a much larger vision. Hugh Evans, Global Citizen Co-Founder and CEO, articulated this ambition, explaining that the initiative aims to establish a pan-African touring circuit. This circuit is designed not only to bring international artists to the continent but also to generate significant opportunities within the creative economy, impacting local vendors, production crews, and a wide array of related industries. Evans emphasized, “Global Citizen launched Move Afrika to build the first ever touring circuit for international artists in Africa, and create thousands of jobs in the creative economy. And Kigali, we could not have chosen a better place to start!”

Now in its third successful year, the Move Afrika initiative continues to gather momentum. Previous editions have featured an impressive roster of global stars such as John Legend and Kendrick Lamar, alongside landmark performances by artists like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Usher, Davido, Tiwa Savage, SZA, Stormzy, and Tems, held across prominent African cities including Johannesburg, Lagos, and Accra. With Kigali once again setting a high standard, the tour is now poised to move to its next destination, Pretoria, South Africa, on March 20, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to fostering cultural exchange and economic growth across the continent.
