Coachella Shocker: Sabrina Carpenter Unleashes Madonna Onstage!

Sabrina Carpenter's Coachella weekend two headlining set on Friday night achieved historic status, becoming one of the festival’s most unforgettable moments in recent memory. The highlight arrived with a show-stopping surprise appearance by the Queen of Pop, Madonna. Madonna emerged during Carpenter’s performance of “Juno” at the song’s iconic pose moment, as the track seamlessly transitioned into Madonna’s “Vogue” medley. The two pop stars then collaboratively performed the 1990 classic, igniting a frenzy among the massive crowd.
Following their electrifying “Vogue” rendition, the pair proceeded to perform an unreleased track together. This new song is widely believed to be a preview from Confessions II, Madonna’s highly anticipated sequel to her seminal 2005 dance landmark, Confessions on a Dance Floor. The new album is slated for release on July 3 via Warner Records, adding significant weight to the surprise performance.
Before concluding her segment with “Like a Prayer,” Madonna directly addressed the enthusiastic crowd, linking the moment to a personal Coachella milestone. “20 years ago today I performed at Coachella — I was at the dance tent,” she recounted from the stage. “It was the first time I performed Confessions from the dancefloor. Same boots, same corsets… it’s like a full circle moment.” This poignant reflection underscored the significance of her return to the festival stage.
Madonna also pointed out the astrological importance of the evening, stating, “I also want to point out it’s the new moon of Taurus. Seven planets lined up in Aries… avoid confrontations. In all circumstances — for the rest of the month — let’s try to get along, let’s try to be together, let’s try to avoid disagreements.” Carpenter, quick to embrace the moment, added, “She’s pointing to me because I’m a Taurus.” Madonna’s 2006 Coachella performance served as a crucial warm-up for her hugely successful Confessions Tour, which went on to gross over $194 million from 60 shows, establishing it as the highest-grossing tour by a female artist at that time.
The upcoming Confessions II, due July 3 on Warner Records, is produced by Stuart Price, who famously helmed the original Confessions on a Dance Floor. The new album will echo the format of its 2005 predecessor by being released as a non-stop mix. This marks Madonna’s first full-length album in seven years and her first for Warner Records since Hard Candy in 2008. Just hours before the Coachella Weekend kicked off, Madonna released “I Feel So Free,” the first single off her new album.
This musically star-studded weekend two set contrasted sharply with Carpenter’s weekend one showing, where guest appearances were limited to actors Susan Sarandon, Will Ferrell, Sam Elliott, Geena Davis (for a spoken word monologue), and Terry Crews, who notably poked fun at his iconic role in White Chicks. Carpenter's Coachella headline run effectively concludes her blockbuster journey behind her 2024 album Short n’ Sweet, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced the top five Hot 100 hit “Espresso.” Meanwhile, Madonna is now firmly heading toward the highly anticipated July release of Confessions II, poised to be one of the most significant pop albums of the year.
