Cameroon's Seini Sets FIBA U19 Rebound Record

In a thrilling double-overtime match at the U19 World Cup, Amadou Seini delivered an extraordinary performance against Australia, showcasing immense skill and determination. Despite an overwhelming rush of adrenaline that led to a momentary lapse—an accidental dunk into his own basket at the end of the fourth quarter—Seini's overall contribution to the game was nothing short of remarkable.
Seini's stat line for the game was exceptional, as he finished with 15 points, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Most notably, he achieved an efficiency rating of 38 and recorded an astonishing 25 rebounds. This monumental rebounding effort tied the U19 World Cup all-time high, a record previously held solely by Australian basketball legend Andrew Bogut. Seini eventually fouled out during the second overtime, but his impact on the game and his place in the record books were already secured.
His 25 rebounds put him in an elite class of players who have dominated the boards at the U19 World Cup. The record, dating back to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 1995, now lists both Amadou Seini and Andrew Bogut at the top. Bogut himself achieved the feat twice: once against Korea on July 12, 2003, and again against Croatia on June 19, 2003. Bogut also appears in fourth place on the all-time list with 24 rebounds against Argentina on July 11, 2003.
Other notable players who have made their mark on the rebounding charts include Yasseen Musa of Qatar, who also had 24 rebounds against Japan on July 20, 1999, and Jonas Valanciunas of Lithuania, who recorded 24 rebounds against Poland on July 8, 2011. Drago Pasalic of Croatia appears twice with 22 rebounds, against Lithuania on July 10, 2003, and against Slovenia on July 15, 2003. Six other players are tied for ninth place with 21 rebounds. Seini's historic performance not only highlighted his individual prowess but also added another memorable chapter to the rich history of the U19 World Cup.
