Bone-Crunching First Look: 'The Boys' Prequel 'Vought Rising' Trailer Reveals Bloody Origins!

Prime Video's popular series, "The Boys," recently concluded its fifth and final season, bringing to an end a run that began in 2019 and became an instant hit. The show's shift to a weekly release model sustained its dominance in conversation, and its final season resonated positively with critics, scoring 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, some audience members criticized the handling of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, who vanished before the series finale, impacting the storyline.

Despite the conclusion of "The Boys," the Vought Cinematic Universe is set to expand with the prequel series, "Vought Rising." This new spin-off, following "Gen V," delves into the dark origins of Vought in 1950s New York City, years before Homelander's reign. It explores the rise of Vought's power and positions Soldier Boy as a central figure, described as the "golden goose" of that era. Creator Eric Kripke has indicated bigger plans for Soldier Boy, suggesting his role in "Vought Rising" will address previous audience criticisms.

Prime Video recently released the first trailer for "Vought Rising," offering a glimpse into its retro world. The trailer showcases Jensen Ackles reprising his role as Soldier Boy, suiting up for the first time in a period-appropriate costume. It also highlights experiments conducted at the nefarious Sage Grove Center, a psychiatric hospital seen in "The Boys," where scientists work on bestowing powers upon individuals. A significant plot point revealed is the initial team-up between Soldier Boy and Aya Cash's Stormfront, who also reprises her role. Fans of "The Boys" will recall Stormfront as a major antagonist in Season 2, whose Nazi past as Liberty was a key reveal before her ultimate demise.

The cast for "Vought Rising" includes several notable actors in addition to Ackles and Cash. Mason Dye returns as Bombsight, a supe who briefly battled Soldier Boy in "The Boys" Season 5 before losing his V1 serum-induced super strength and immortality. Elizabeth Posey plays Private Angel, a nurse-inspired supe, while Will Hochman takes on the role of Torpedo. Other cast members include KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, Glenda MacInnis as Jane, and Rohan Mead as Jimmy Latiker. Both Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash serve as producers for the series.

Behind the scenes, Paul Grellong is the showrunner and an executive producer. A formidable team of executive producers includes Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, and Jim Barnes. The series is a collaborative production between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.

"Vought Rising" is scheduled to begin streaming early next year, allowing "The Boys" fans time to process the recent series finale. While the first trailer has ignited excitement, further plot details are being kept under wraps. The future of the show beyond its first season remains undecided and will likely depend on its performance upon release.
