Alarming Threat: Israel Warns of Iranian Missiles Reaching East Africa
Israel has raised the alarm over Iran’s growing missile power, claiming that some of its weapons could reach key cities across East Africa.
In a statement from its embassy in Kenya, Israel specifically mentioned Mogadishu, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Juba as being within striking distance, a stark warning that has captured regional attention.
The embassy highlighted that Iran’s long-range missiles can reach an impressive 4,000 kilometres from Tehran, a distance that covers much of the Horn of Africa and stretches into other parts of East Africa.
This means several major regional capitals could potentially fall within striking range of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, sits about 3,200 kilometres away.
Mogadishu in Somalia is roughly 3,700–3,800 kilometres distant, while Juba, South Sudan’s capital, just falls short of 4,000 kilometres.
Nairobi, Kenya, sits near the edge of this range at around 4,300–4,400 kilometres, putting it just beyond the missile’s stated reach, but still close enough to make regional observers take notice.
Israel has pointed out that the Middle East and East Africa are geographically close, creating a regional corridor where security concerns, especially long-range missiles take center stage.
Israeli officials warn that Iran’s missile arsenal isn’t just a Middle East issue; it could potentially strike far beyond, even reaching large parts of Africa.
This warning comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, pushing experts worldwide to closely watch Tehran’s missile developments and what they could mean for the region.
