Alarming Threat: Israel Warns of Iranian Missiles Reaching East Africa
Israel has issued a stern warning regarding Iran's advanced missile capabilities, asserting that they possess the range to strike various cities across East Africa. This significant claim was made known through a statement released by Israel's embassy in Kenya, specifically naming Mogadishu, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Juba as cities potentially within reach.
The embassy's statement elaborated that a formidable 4,000-kilometre radius, extending from Tehran, encompasses a substantial portion of the Horn of Africa and other parts of the East African region. This extensive range consequently places several key regional capitals under the potential threat of Iran's long-range missiles. According to the provided figures, Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, is situated approximately 3,200 kilometres from Tehran. Mogadishu, Somalia's capital, lies roughly between 3,700 and 3,800 kilometres away. Juba, the capital of South Sudan, is positioned just shy of the 4,000-kilometre mark, while Nairobi, Kenya's capital, is indicated to be near the outer edge of this stated range, at an approximate distance of 4,300 to 4,400 kilometres.
This geographical proximity between the Middle East and East Africa, highlighted by Israel, underscores a relatively close regional corridor that brings critical security discussions to the forefront, particularly concerning long-range missile capabilities. Further amplifying these concerns, Israeli officials have consistently cautioned that Iran's missile arsenal is not confined to the Middle East, but rather possesses the capacity to reach targets well beyond, including substantial areas of the African continent. These revelations emerge amidst an environment of escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, prompting analysts globally to intensify their examination of the potential reach and intricate regional implications of Tehran's evolving missile development program.
