Youth Mobilization: ADC-PCC Calls for Rejection of Tinubu's Second Term
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has called on Nigerian youths to reject President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid, citing the APC administration's failures in addressing unemployment, poverty, and the rising cost of living. The council also criticized the government's petrol price discount as misleading, urging support for ADC candidates Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi for a more transparent economic approach.
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has strongly urged Nigerian youths to reject President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. The council leveled accusations against the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, stating its failure to adequately address critical national issues such as unemployment, pervasive poverty, and the escalating cost of living across the country. Furthermore, the ADC-PCC dismissed the federal government’s reported petrol price discount, labeling it as misleading and asserting that motorists continue to pay over ₦1,400 per litre at petrol stations nationwide.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the Director of Media and Publicity for the ADC-PCC, conveyed this message during a recent interaction with ADC youth leaders in the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Ologbondiyan highlighted that despite spending nearly 12 years in power, the APC government has failed to deliver significant improvements in the lives of young Nigerians. He pointed out that countless graduates remain jobless, often compelled to engage in petty trading, sell recharge cards, or operate point-of-sale (POS) businesses merely to survive the challenging economic circumstances.
Ologbondiyan also challenged the efficacy of the reported petrol price discount, which the government claimed would reduce pump prices to ₦1,350 per litre. He urged youths to verify the situation at local filling stations, where, according to him, prices consistently exceed ₦1,400 per litre. He questioned the reality behind such a discount, emphasizing that the supposed reduction has not translated into any tangible relief for Nigerians, who are still burdened by high transportation costs and increasing business expenses. Ologbondiyan stated that no Nigerian should celebrate a discount that exists only in government announcements while the reality at the pumps tells a vastly different story. He also noted that persistent queues at filling stations further underscore the difficulties consumers face in accessing petrol.
The ADC-PCC spokesman accused the Tinubu administration of prioritizing public announcements and publicity over implementing concrete measures to alleviate the economic struggles of its citizens. He argued that after years in government, Nigerians deserve more than mere promises, excuses, and propaganda; they require effective policies and leadership that genuinely understands and addresses their pain. In response, Ologbondiyan called upon young Nigerians to rally support for the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi. He presented their ticket as offering a more transparent and people-oriented approach to economic management.
According to Ologbondiyan, the Atiku/Amaechi ticket is committed to prioritizing citizens’ welfare and instituting transparent and responsive reforms within the petroleum sector to meet the needs of Nigerians. He reiterated that Atiku Abubakar comprehends the suffering of Nigerians and that his approach would be characterized by transparency, accountability, and a dedication to easing the burdens on ordinary citizens. Ologbondiyan concluded by urging youths to mobilize support for the ADC across their communities and wards, encouraging them to critically assess all presidential candidates based on their proven records, proposed policies, and genuine commitment to the nation’s future. He stressed that young Nigerians deserve decent employment, affordable living conditions, and opportunities for advancement, and should therefore reject any government whose promises, in the council’s view, have not yielded the promised results. He warned against being deceived by unfulfilled promises, asserting that the future of Nigerian youths is too vital to be compromised by political propaganda, and that Nigeria deserves better leadership.
