Yankees Star Aaron Judge 'Optimistic' for Playoff Return

Boone later softened his stance, acknowledging, "I’m not ruling anything out. We got days away until that... If he’s in a position to come back, obviously we’re going to want him." This situation highlights a recurring tension between Boone and Judge regarding injury prognoses, though Judge dismissed any annoyance, affirming his trust in his manager.

Surprisingly, another power hitter, Giancarlo Stanton, who has been sidelined since April 24 with multiple calf strains and whose rehab was derailed in August, is now taking swings against live pitching at Double-A Somerset. This unexpected development presents the possibility of his availability for the Wild Card Series, particularly against the lefty-heavy Boston Red Sox, the likely first-round opponent. Boone was cautiously noncommittal about Stanton's condition, given his history of false starts, but confirmed Stanton hit a home run during a recent session. The manager admitted, "Anything’s possible. But we’ll see," regarding Stanton's readiness.

In Judge's absence, the Yankees showcased their offensive depth in a recent 9-2 victory over the Rays. Ben Rice hit two home runs, Ryan McMahon added a grand slam for 5 RBIs, and George Lombard Jr. also contributed a homer.
