Wizkid Makes History: First African Artist to Shatter 11 Billion Spotify Streams

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, globally known as Wizkid, has achieved an unprecedented milestone, becoming the first African artist to amass an astounding 11 billion streams on Spotify. This monumental accomplishment further solidifies his standing as a leading figure in the global music industry.

The significant achievement was officially announced on Tuesday by the music data tracking handle @ChaftsAfrica on X (formerly Twitter). The announcement highlighted Wizkid's consistent dominance, stating, "First African artists to reach major Spotify milestones: 1 billion -- Wizkid, 2 billion -- Wizkid, 3 billion -- Wizkid, 4 billion -- Wizkid, 5 billion -- Wizkid, 6 billion -- Wizkid, 7 billion -- Wizkid, 8 billion -- Wizkid, 9 billion -- Wizkid, 10 billion -- Wizkid, 11 billion -- Wizkid." This indicates that he has been the trailblazer for every billion-stream mark achieved by an African artist on the platform.

This latest record comes on the heels of another successful release: Wizkid's collaboration with DJ Tunez, titled "State of Mind." Launched on May 15, the track quickly garnered over 685,000 global Spotify streams within its inaugural day. Earlier in January, 'Big Wiz,' as he is affectionately known, had already made history as the first African artist to reach 10 billion streams on Spotify, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Both industry professionals and his dedicated fanbase have lauded this milestone as a pivotal moment, underscoring the growing influence and global recognition of African music on the international stage.
