Witcher's New Era: Liam Hemsworth Takes Over Geralt in Season 4 First Look

Fans of the acclaimed fantasy drama “The Witcher” can rejoice as Netflix has unveiled the first look at Season 4, featuring Liam Hemsworth stepping into the iconic role of Geralt of Rivia. The highly anticipated eight-episode season is set to premiere globally on Netflix on October 30, 2025, marking a significant new chapter for the series adapted from CD Projekt Red’s video game franchise and Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels.
The casting of Liam Hemsworth as the titular witcher follows the departure of Henry Cavill, who portrayed Geralt for the first three seasons. Cavill announced his exit in October 2022, with Season 3, released in two parts in June and July 2023, serving as his final outing. In a heartfelt message, Cavill stated, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.” The initial teaser footage showcases Hemsworth’s Geralt, visually akin to Cavill’s rendition, engaging in combat with a ghostly wraith, giving fans their first glimpse of his embodiment of the grizzled monster hunter.
Season 4 plunges deeper into the Continent-altering aftermath of Season 3. The official logline reveals that “After the Continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge, and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good.” This sets the stage for a compelling narrative focused on separation, new alliances, and the ultimate hope for reunification amidst a backdrop of conflict.
Alongside Hemsworth, the new season brings back beloved cast members, including Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, and Joey Batey as Jaskier. The ensemble cast is further bolstered by new and returning talents such as Laurence Fishburne as Regis, Sharlto Copley as the feared bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, and many others. The extensive list of supporting characters promises a rich and intricate world, populated by mages, elves, and kings, crucial to the evolving storyline.
As previously announced, Season 4 will serve as the penultimate season, with the series slated to conclude after Season 5. Both remaining seasons have been filmed back-to-back to adapt the final three novels in Sapkowski’s saga: “Baptism of Fire,” “The Tower of the Swallow,” and “Lady of the Lake.” Showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich commented on this overarching narrative arc, saying, “This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever.” Laurence Fishburne also provided an update on the production, confirming that filming for Season 5 was commencing, adding to the anticipation for the show’s grand finale. Fans can expect a comprehensive and climactic conclusion to Ciri’s long and brutal journey as the series adapts the full scope of its source material.
