Wike's Influence Wanes: Bauchi PDP Rejects His National Leadership

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has unequivocally rejected the characterization of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, as the party's “national leader.” The Bauchi State chapter of the PDP described this designation as reckless, misleading, and entirely alien to the party’s foundational document, the PDP Constitution. Addressing members of the press in Bauchi, Dayyabu Chiroma, the publicity secretary of the PDP in Bauchi State, emphasized that the party operates as a constitutionally governed political entity with a clearly defined organizational structure, including established organs and leadership positions. He challenged proponents of the “national leader” title to identify any constitutional provision that recognizes or creates such an office, stating that authority within the party cannot be obtained through self-proclaimed titles or political rhetoric.
Chiroma further elaborated that Nyesom Wike and his associated individuals are no longer considered members of the PDP, citing their expulsion by the party’s National Convention. Consequently, he argued that this group lacks the moral, political, or legal legitimacy to influence or dictate the internal affairs and strategic direction of the party. The Bauchi State PDP accused Wike's faction of pursuing a narrow and self-serving agenda, pointing to their demand that the PDP abstain from fielding a presidential candidate in the upcoming general election. This demand, Chiroma noted, is particularly revealing given that the presidential office has been specifically zoned to the Southern part of the country, thereby exposing their ulterior motives and underlying hostility towards the survival and principles of the party.
Reaffirming the party’s core mission, Chiroma stated that the PDP, as a truly national platform, is committed to sponsoring candidates for all elective offices throughout Nigeria. This objective, he asserted, is in full alignment with its constitution, democratic principles, and the collective aspirations of the Nigerian populace. He issued a stern warning that any proposition or action that contradicts this fundamental objective would be considered anti-party activity and would constitute a direct assault on the integrity, unity, and future viability of the Peoples Democratic Party.
