The Golden State Warriors’ 2025 season ended in disappointment after they were eliminated in the play-in tournament because of injuries, poor form, and inconsistency made it a tough year and showed that their dominant era may be fading.

During his final warmup before the last regular-season game against the Los Angeles Clippers, he looked less sharp than usual, even on his trademark long shots.

The Warriors had a tough season, finishing with 37 wins, and they started poorly, struggled with turnovers, and often made mistakes in close games.

He finished the final year of his contract without signing an extension and admitted there’s only about a 50-50 chance he returns.

Kerr says he still enjoys coaching but believes every team eventually reaches the end of its cycle and may need new leadership.

He will spend the next one to two weeks talking with team owner Joe Lacob and General Manager Mike Dunleavy about his future.

The team reportedly wants to be sure he still has strong motivation, not just loyalty to veteran players like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

If Kerr stays, the Warriors may adjust their playing style by using more varied offense and relying less on three-point shooting, and they also want to improve efficiency and overall balance.

If he leaves, the team could start a full coaching search, possibly even looking outside the NBA. That could also lead to wider changes in the organization, especially with several assistant coaches possibly leaving.

At the same time, the team is dealing with salary pressure. Curry, Green, and Jimmy Butler will take up most of the payroll next season.

Curry, 38, still has one year left on his contract and is open to signing an extension and continuing his career for a few more years.

Jimmy Butler, 36, is entering the final year of his deal, and he suffered a serious knee injury in January, which hurt the team’s season. He is focused on recovery for now and will decide his future later.

Draymond Green’s contract is a big issue for the Warriors, and he has a $27.6 million player option for 2026–27.
