Hornets Lock Down Star Rookie: Brandon Miller's Staggering $209M Extension!
Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller has secured a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension after a career-best 2025-26 season. Miller's pivotal role in the team's postseason run and improved health underscore his growing importance, especially as he steps into a larger leadership position following key roster changes.
Charlotte Hornets rising star forward Brandon Miller has officially agreed to a significant five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension. The deal was confirmed by his representatives, AJ Vaynerchuk and Joey Middleton of VaynerSports, to ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday. This lucrative agreement solidifies Miller's future with the Hornets as he prepares to enter his fourth year in the league.
Miller, who is set to celebrate his 24th birthday next month, delivered a standout performance during the 2025-26 NBA season. He achieved career-high averages of 20.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while also maintaining an impressive 38.3% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc across 65 regular-season appearances. This exceptional year marked a significant improvement in his availability, especially considering he had been limited to just 27 games in a previous season.
His impact on the Charlotte Hornets' fortunes was undeniable. Alongside then-rookie Kon Knueppel, Miller was instrumental in orchestrating a surprising mid-season turnaround that propelled the team into the postseason. Despite ultimately falling in the second play-in game, their remarkable second-half run demonstrated the team's potential with Miller leading the charge. The Hornets' record vividly illustrates his importance: they posted an impressive 41-24 record when Miller was available to play, in stark contrast to a challenging 3-14 record in his absence.
Miller's journey to this career-defining season was not without its hurdles. He missed a considerable portion of the beginning of the 2025-26 season due to a shoulder injury. To address the issue, he underwent surgery in May to enhance the stability of the shoulder. However, he made a full recovery and was able to participate in the Charlotte Hornets' preseason activities, signaling his readiness for the upcoming challenges.
As he embarks on his fourth professional season, Miller is poised to take on an even more central and expanded role within the Hornets organization. This increased responsibility comes in the wake of significant roster changes, most notably the trades involving long-standing franchise cornerstones LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges. Miller, originally selected by the Hornets as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, is now clearly positioned as a foundational piece for the team's future.
