Warfare on Screen: 'Call of Duty' Adaptation Faces New Rival as 'Battlefield' Movie Hits the Scene!

Michael B. Jordan's career is currently experiencing a significant peak, marked by his impactful roles and upcoming high-profile projects. Following his successful involvement in two Black Panther films, Jordan reunited with director Ryan Coogler for the vampire horror thriller Sinners. This film, released in the past year, garnered flawless critical reviews and achieved remarkable box office success, grossing over $370 million. For his compelling performance as Smoke and Stack in Sinners, Jordan received his first Academy Award, a significant milestone in his career that many anticipate will not be his last.
Sinners, a critically acclaimed R-rated horror thriller, boasts a runtime of 138 minutes. Directed and written by Ryan Coogler, the film was produced by Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and Ryan Coogler. Alongside Michael B. Jordan as Smoke / Stack, the cast also featured Hailee Steinfeld in the role of Mary.
With Sinners behind him, Jordan is now focusing on a slate of new ventures. These include a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, where he will star alongside Adria Arjona, and a highly anticipated fourth installment in the Creed movie series. Notably, Michael B. Jordan is set to both star in and direct both of these upcoming projects, further solidifying his creative control and influence in Hollywood.
Adding to his expanding portfolio, news has emerged about a new Michael B. Jordan project with the potential to be one of his most significant yet: a film adaptation of the popular, long-running video game franchise Battlefield. For this ambitious endeavor, Jordan is reportedly teaming up with acclaimed director Christopher McQuarrie, known for his work on Mission: Impossible films and writing Top Gun: Maverick. At this initial stage, McQuarrie is believed to be handling the writing, directing, and producing duties for the Battlefield movie, with Jordan attached as a producer and a possible star. The collaboration also sparks speculation about a potential on-screen pairing of Jordan and Tom Cruise, given Cruise's long-standing working relationship with McQuarrie. The Battlefield movie is currently being pitched to various studios and has already sparked an intense bidding war.
Interestingly, while the Battlefield movie is in development, another major video game adaptation is also in the works. Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on Yellowstone, is developing a Call of Duty script, with Peter Berg slated to direct. Both Battlefield and Call of Duty are long-standing rivals in the first-person-shooter gaming world, though Call of Duty has historically held an advantage in sales. While no cast members are attached to the Call of Duty project yet, Jordan is widely considered the likely star for the Battlefield film.
