Volvo Begins Production of EX60 EV as New Electric SUV Enters Global Market Push

Volvo EX60 has officially entered production at Volvo’s Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, marking a major step in the company’s expansion of its electric vehicle lineup. Positioned in the competitive midsize luxury SUV segment, the EX60 is expected to work alongside the XC60 plug-in hybrid to strengthen Volvo’s presence in both European and U.S. markets as demand for electric SUVs continues to rise.

Early demand for the EX60 has been strong following its unveiling in Stockholm, with pre-orders in Europe exceeding expectations and prompting an expansion of production plans even before customer test drives begin.

The model is built on Volvo’s SPA3 architecture and incorporates advanced manufacturing processes, including megacasting and in-house battery production, aimed at improving efficiency, scalability, and long-term cost competitiveness.

The EX60 will launch with multiple powertrain options, offering outputs ranging from under 400 horsepower to high-performance variants exceeding 600 horsepower, alongside an estimated driving range of nearly 400 miles depending on configuration.

Volvo is also targeting pricing parity with its hybrid models, positioning the EX60 as a core pillar in its electric strategy while emphasizing safety, minimalist design, and strong competition against premium German rivals in the growing EV SUV market.
