Retired Cops Block Abuja Presidential Villa Over Pension Crisis

Retired police officers blocked key entrances to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, demanding the government act on their pension grievances and soldiers were deployed to manage the situation.

The officers want out of Nigeria's Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which they say has subjected retirees to irregular payments and severe hardship.

A National Assembly bill that would exempt police from the CPS has been passed but it's been waiting for presidential assent for months.

Separately, President Tinubu approved a new Nigeria Police Academy campus in Erinja, Ogun State, backed by a N15 billion special grant from TETFUND's 2026 allocation.
