UK Drivers Stung: Diesel Prices Hit Shocking New Record Highs!
Diesel prices in the UK have reached an unprecedented record high of 199.18p per litre, fueled by global oil market pressures from the Iran war. Unleaded petrol prices are also sharply rising, nearing past peaks and potentially breaking the £2 barrier at some forecourts.
The United Kingdom is currently experiencing unprecedented surges in fuel prices, with diesel reaching an all-time record high. Standard diesel prices climbed to an average of 199.18p per litre this past weekend, surpassing the previous record of 199.09p per litre set in June 2022, according to the RAC. This significant increase marks a 20 percent rise since mid-July, primarily attributed to heightened pressure on global oil markets stemming from the Iran war, which has caused a second spike in UK fuel costs.
While standard unleaded petrol prices have also seen a sharp increase recently, they have not yet reached the record levels observed for diesel. The current average price for unleaded petrol stands at 174.1p per litre. For comparison, unleaded petrol peaked at 191.5p per litre in July 2022, following the invasion of Ukraine. Concerns are growing that unleaded prices could soon breach the £2 barrier, as more than 50 motorway service stations are already charging 199.9p per litre. Consumers are advised to check local prices to find the most affordable options.
