Power Play: Governor Yusuf Backs Tinubu's Second Term for Southern Equity!

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has publicly advocated for the consistent rotation of presidential power between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions. Speaking on Sunday at the Government House in Kano during the unveiling of 50 vehicles donated by Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, for the APC campaign mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, Governor Yusuf articulated his stance on this critical national issue.

The Governor's position is firmly rooted in the principle that presidential power should alternate between the North and South, ensuring that each major region is afforded the opportunity to produce a president for two consecutive terms. He argued that this two-term framework is crucial as it would provide ample time for any administration to effectively conceptualize, implement, and bring to fruition significant policies, programmes, and crucial development projects across the nation.

In line with this principle, Governor Yusuf expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete a second term in office. He reasoned that this would enable the southern region to fulfill its two-term cycle, thereby ensuring the structured progression of power before it naturally rotates back to the North. The Governor urged political stakeholders, particularly those within the Northern region, to exercise patience and allow the existing political arrangement to unfold as planned, projecting that power would revert to the North after the southern region concludes its two-term cycle in 2031.

Furthermore, Governor Yusuf emphasized that rotational presidency should not merely be viewed as a political mechanism but rather as a vital instrument for fostering fairness, enhancing national cohesion, building mutual trust, and instilling a profound sense of belonging among all Nigerians, irrespective of their geographical origin within the country.

Beyond the discussion of power rotation, Governor Yusuf also took the opportunity to call upon politicians and various political parties to ensure that their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections are conducted peacefully and are primarily focused on substantive issues. He strongly advised political actors to concentrate on debating policies, outlining programmes, and presenting development plans, rather than resorting to personal attacks, inflammatory rhetoric, or engaging in any actions that could potentially destabilize peace and order.

Concluding his remarks, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to peaceful democratic engagement. He implored all stakeholders to prioritize the unity, peace, and overall development of both Kano State and Nigeria above any partisan differences or political affiliations.
