Upon entering the residence, officers discovered Mr. Sykes with critical injuries consistent with a stabbing, and Santa Monica Fire Department personnel confirmed his passing at the scene.

Police identified Sykes' 31-year-old son, Micah Sykes, as "the suspect" in the incident. He was located inside the home and was taken into custody "without incident."
